the riddle of riddles

“does it matter for the self if it expires today or in fifty years?”

“one would think so”

“the answer seems nontheless to be ‘no'”

“you will explain”

“the self exists or doesn’t exist”

“yes”

“if it exists, then it exists”

“clearly”

if it doesn’t exist, then it doesn’t exist

“obviously”

“so the logical argument is completely redundant and dry”

“yes, but are we getting anywhere?”

“no, we’re not getting anywhere, that’s the point”

“i see”

“self-reference seems to be the riddle”

“you tell me”

“consciousness from self-reference”

“maybe”

“we ask about consciousness, the while-loop”

“ok”

“while the self”

“while…”

“it seems absolutely clear”

“clear -”

“a clear case of fooling innocent people”

“- could you repeat the while-loop for me?”

“it’s either or and nothing in-between”

“yes”

“the only thing that loops is our consciousness”

“ok”

“it’s the only thing that related the one to the other”

“ok”

“so it’s only for consciousness it matters”

“i understand”

“but consciousness too only exists as long as it exists”

“yes”

“so repeat for consciousness”

“where does this logic lead us?”

“it doesn’t lead us anywhere”

“so that’s where we go wrong?”

“any going anywhere would be wrong”

“where can we go then?”

“why should you go anywhere?”

“i got two feet”

“that’s your problem”

“what about your own feet?”

“i put one foot in front of the other, and repeat”

“wouldn’t that lead you somewhere?”

“i wouldn’t know”

“this denial of consciousness, intention and will disturbs me”

“it disturbs me too”

“then why hold on to it?”

“because it seems to be the logical conclusion”

“still at some level you have to choose between life and logic?”

“you choose your own level, this is one”

“why choose a level that makes life difficult?”

“why not? life is just life – according to this understanding”

“why not choose an easy life with two feet and directions to go?”

“maybe we all choose what comes easiest for us anyway”

“maybe difficulties come easier for some?”

“we certainly choose our difficulties accordingly”

“yes”

“things are dead easy, we only make them difficult to make them more interesting”

“without problems what would become of man?”

“he would die from starvation”

“man breathes problems”
