The mockery of reflected light. The sight of trying to look frightening
aroused a tickle in the belly and the moon burst out laughing at itself.
So it was cursed to wax and wane as laughter is no laughing matter.
“Some days you will appear as only a sliver, other days you shall be fat
and full, and one day each month you will remain invisible.” “Suits me
well”, the moon answered, “since my face never changes, that my phases
will.”
