If you’re looking for a way to make livecast interesting, maybe heavy
breathing on the phone is one thing. Maybe a list of public telephone
booths to call – nobody is supposed to speak, just the presence of
non-presence, a displaced presence, listening to the rain in Bergen or
the traffic in New York or Cairo. Rain sounds, by the way, a lot like a
bad line, so you wouldn’t really know if you were experiencing a
presence or merely a process of presenting – that makes it more
interesting to me – you are put in suspense of what something IS,
bracketed philosophically, even with heavy breathing. I remember my
landlord had a dog who used to answer the phone, I only knew that afterwards, but at the time it was an interesting livecast.
